Digital Workstations Explained

A digital workstation, also called an arranger keyboard, plays a full backing band while you play melody and chords. Its main strengths are:

  • Styles: Built-in rhythm and accompaniment patterns across pop, jazz, Indian and world music.
  • Realistic voices: Super Articulation voices that change with how you play, such as bowed or plucked strings.
  • Live control: Knobs and assignable controls that adjust style energy and effects as you perform.
  • Smart Chord and Chord Looper: Play a single note to get a full chord, or record and loop a chord progression to free your left hand.
  • Expansion content: Free additional voices, styles and MultiPads installable through Yamaha's Expansion Explorer app on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android.
  • Registration Playlists: Organise panel setups for instant recall on stage.

The PSR-SX720 was the first SX keyboard with Super Articulation Plus voices. The PSR-SX920 adds Super Articulation2 voices, previously found only on the flagship Genos2.

Setting Up and Caring for Your Keyboard in India

Keep your keyboard in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. India's humidity and dust can affect electronics, so cover it when not in use and wipe the keys with a soft, dry cloth. Use the correct power adaptor, and consider a surge protector if your area has voltage fluctuations. A sustain pedal and headphones make practice more complete, and silent practice is possible on most models through the headphone jack.
